The reward at the end of yet another long day:

Buncha Ligeti (natch)
Buncha Sinatra (Columbia years)
Buncha choral stuff (Marshall, Berio, Pärt, Harrison, Kyr)
Kanye's Late Registration (finally)
Feldman's Three Voices
Vivica Genaux's Arias for Farinelli
Jamie Lidell's Multiply Additions (the only new CD of the lot)
and, the greatest treasure of all, the culmination of years of digging through clearance bins:

Michael Bolton singing Vesti la giubba, Che gelida manina, E lucevan le stelle, and, of course, Nessun dorma! $2.99 has never yielded so many laughs.

O.M.G. Michael Bolton... Aretha... Who's next, R. Kelly? Eminem?

Why not andrea boccelli?
Hope you had the opportunity to go hear the verdi requiem at davies. Brewer and Blythe were just amazing, amazing, amazing. Brewer was signing cds afterwards, and she recalled one night the Fidelio advent calendar did not open. Ouch.

one night the Fidelio advent calendar did not open
D'OH! (*squish*)
Why not andrea boccelli?
the difference between bocelli 'singing' nessun dorma (to the back of his eyelids, as it were) and bolton 'singing' nessun dorma is that bocelli is just one of thousands who sing nessun dorma poorly, whereas there ain't NO ONE who 'sings' nessun dorma like michael bolton...
Who's next
i pick tom waits.

Oh, how we laughed when My Secret Passion came out. The greatest delight is the phlegmy noise he makes at the end of the high note each time in...what was it...pourquoi me reveiller?
For comparable awful, David Byrne and Rufus Wainwright sing "Au fond du temple saint" on a DB album. Even though RW made something sort of nice albeit weird of "vainement ma bien aimee" elsewhere.
