Downtime

Here's a message I never wanted to see:
WARNING: Dell's Disk Monitoring System has detected that drive 0 on the primary EIDE controller is operating outside of normal specifications. It is advisable to immediately back up your data and replace your hard-disk drive by calling your support desk or Dell Computer Corporation.
We're now in Hour 4 of preparations to migrate to OS X. At the moment iTunes is consolidating about 90GB of music; one hour still to go.

Welcome to the fab world of Mac OSX. I love it and imagine you will as well. Good luck!! Roger.

Sorry about the dying Dell - but Vista has persuaded me that very likely my next computer will be a Macintosh.

Ouch. Disk failure is never fun. But you're doing the right thing -- once you go Mac, you'll never go back.

"Operating outside of normal specifications" sounds like it might be a good thing, but I suppose in this case it isn't. Welcome to the wonderful world of Mac! I have been a faithful Mac user since the spring of 1987 and if the company ever goes out of business I will go back to pencil and paper.

I recently spent a delightful 3 hours on the phone with a Dell representative on India's East coast. He was patient and attentive and I learned a great deal about his life and work. One can logically think of a service call to Dell as a kind of cross-cultural adventure. I ask you, would owning a Mac broaden your horizons so effectively...?
